What is iOS?

All computing devices have something that tells the device how to run. That something for PCs and iPads is the “operating system”. You have probably heard of operating systems before, it’s what people are talking about when they talk about “Microsoft Windows™”, “Android™” or “MacOS™”. It tells the PC how to draw a picture on the screen or what happens when you press “enter” on the keyboard and many, many other things.

The iPad is no different to other computing devices, it needs an operating system to tell is how to work as well and the iPad’s operating system is called “iOS”.
iOS is the operating system for many of Apple’s mobile devices – the iPad, the iPhone and the iPod Touch.
